Team Rules
  1. Teams of four must consist of 1 x Team Manager/Executive Chef, 1 x Senior Cook, 1 x Junior (25 years or younger) Cook (assistant), 1 x Waiter. The Team Manager/ Executive Chef may not cook. Only the senior and Junior (30 years or younger) cooks are permitted to cook. The waiter must serve 4 plated portions to invited guests and 2 plated portions to judges. The Junior and Senior cook may not hold any formal qualification but must be cooks.

  2. To enter, create recipes using Unilever Food Solutions products and submit your recipes for a starter, main course and dessert with accompanying photographs and costings. Recipes must serve 6 pax.

  3. You may enter by post: Unilever Food Solutions Chef of the Year Competition, P.O. Box 1547, Durban, 4000, fax: 031 570 2395, email: coty@unilever.com or online at www.unileverfoodsolutions.co.za. Entries must be received on or before the 13th July 2012. Please send your recipes and photographs with your entry form details.

  4. Teams will be judged on the number of Unilever Food Solutions products used, the novel use of products, the originality of the recipe, the degree of difficulty and the skill required, the fusion of flavours and portion obedience, as well as table presentation.

  5. Unilever Food Solutions reserves the right to change the chef category entered.

  6. The 6 highest scoring entrants nationally will go through to the Mystery Basket National Finals to be held in Johannesburg on 14th September 2012. You will be notified if you have been selected to participate in the Mystery Basket National Finals. These finalists will be required to prepare a three course menu to serve 6 pax using Unilever Food Solutions Products. Wine must accompany your menu and must be supplied by the finalists. No fresh ingredients will be supplied when there is a Unilever Food Solutions equivalent product available.

  7. Unilever Food Solutions will supply finalists with tables and chairs.

  8. The finalists will be scored on taste, professional preparation, teamwork and presentation, as well as service and table décor, they will be required to bring their own crockery & cutlery, glass wear, etc.

  9. Unilever Food Solutions will arrange accommodation and transport for the Mystery Basket National Finals held in Johannesburg. Accommodation is inclusive of Bed and Breakfast; transport will be inclusive of airport taxes should the finalists be required to fly to Johannesburg.

  10. The winning team will be announced at the awards ceremony on 14th September 2012.

  11. The winners will be contacted for banking details after the announcement and prize money will be paid into the accounts within 35 working days.
